The Dead Thing / USA / 2024 / Dir: Elric Kane / 95mins
Alex (Blu Hunt of THE NEW MUTANTS) is mired down in the dating scene of Los Angeles. After many meaningless connections she meets and forms an instant connection with Kyle (Ben Smith-Petersen). Following their night together Kyle vanishes in the morning. When Alex proceeds to track down Kyle they reconnect, but she soon discovers that her lover hides a dark secret that turns their affair into a dangerous obsession.
Elric Kane’s first film, THE DEAD THING, nails what a fantastic supernatural horror flick should be—sharp, tragic, and unsettling. With stunning visuals and top-notch performances, it dives into the dark side of modern dating in a way that’s both relatable and deeply disturbing. As the host of the PURE CINEMA and COLORS OF THE DARK podcasts, Elric Kane clearly knows his stuff when it comes to genre films. This well-crafted cinematic experience pulls the audience in, both visually and emotionally, capturing the eerie vibe of Los Angeles.
