David Lynch blends together southern gothic melodrama, THE WIZARD OF OZ, surreal kinky violence, and Elvis in this nightmare soap opera thrill ride.
Based on the pulp novel by author Barry Gifford, WILD AT HEART follows outlaw lovers Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and Lula (Laura Dern) as they go on the run through a menacing Deep South, populated by the usual stable of unsettling Lynchian weirdos (including a bonkers Willem Dafoe). Funny, scary, and brilliantly cinematic, Lynch received the Palme d’Or for this film at Cannes amid “the most violent chorus of boos and hisses to be heard in a decade.” Strap in.
