KLEE / CANADA/ 2025/ Dir: Gavin Baird/ 20 Min
Saskatoon Fantastic is proud so host the Saskatchewan premier of KLEE.
The colonial-revenge short film KLEE made its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and we are now bringing it back home to Saskatchewan. Join the cast and crew for a special celebration as this year’s opening film of the 16th Saskatoon Fantastic film festival.
An alien is sent to Earth and is tasked with a mission to invade, seduce, and terminate a family of colonizers in 19th-century Saskatchewan.
“Body horror meets prairie gothic in Gavin Baird’s mind-blowing period sci-fi that flips the script on colonization as an alien in the form of an Indigenous man infiltrates a remote Saskatchewan community and seduces its members one by one.” – Sonja Baksa (Toronto International Film Festival)
The 20-minute short was written and directed by Gavin Baird, produced by Kyle Zurevinski (Dynamic Video Imaging), Jacob Farrell (Dorothy Studios), Kayla Peters, and stars seth cardinal dodginghorse in the titular role of “KLEE.” The film was shot entirely in Saskatchewan on Treaty 6 Territory, on 16mm film, and with a cast and crew of frequent collaborators, family, and loved ones.
KLEE was partially funded by imagineNATIVE & Netflix through the Jeff Barnaby Grant in honour of the late Mi’kmaw writer and director.
