Saskatoon Blues Festival: The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer w/ John Primer

Friday, March 1, 2024
7:30 PM / Broadway Theatre

Doors open at 6:30PM, show start at 7:30PM. All ages.

The Saskatoon Blues Festival feels very privileged to present an evening of both the best of Traditional Blues and New Blues. In 2013, our festival lineup included a burgeoning young act by the name of The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer. Saskatoon was probably the first to present H&AM outside of their BC home. It was a wild ride including white knuckle driving in a Saskatchewan blizzard, a lost, and found, family sweater and an incendiary festival set that said this act was here to stay, and more. These days Shawn and Matthew have been concentrating on personal projects so this appearance for our festival is truly a one off chance to hear The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer do what they do best!

John Primer is the real deal. John is one of the last Legendary Traditional Blues Musicians alive today with his roots in Mississippi. Growing up as a sharecropper in Camden Mississippi John dreamed of one day playing with the Legendary Muddy Waters. His dream came true in 1981 when Muddy asked John to be his band leader. That, along with being taught at the feet of the greatest Chicago bluesmen of the time, John went on to work with other Chicago greats like Willy Dixon and Magic Slim. In his own career as a frontman John has won numerous Blues awards and in 2024 is nominated for a Grammy for his tribute record to Magic Slim, his one time mentor and Chicago legend.
