Gilliland’s innovative arrangements breathe new life into Holst’s celestial masterpiece, blending classical depth with jazz’s vibrant energy. This concert offers a unique opportunity to experience the timeless music of Holst’s The Planets in a completely new light.

The Planets by Gustav Holst is one of the most recognizable orchestra works in the repertoire. It remains a mainstay of orchestras around the world and has inspired many film scores, including Star Wars, Gladiator, and The Right Stuff. In the tradition of Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite, join the SJO for a reimagining of The Planets by internationally renowned composer and arranger Allan Gilliland. It's sure to be an "out of the world" night of big band music.

Get inspired! Join us in celebrating mountain film, outdoor adventure, and environmental initiatives at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival Tour. The VIMFF tour in Saskatoon is proudly hosted by Saskatoon Search and Rescue, a registered charity operated entirely by dedicated volunteers. All funds raised go directly toward supporting the organization’s vital work, including searches for lost or missing persons, assisting the community in emergency situations, and managing the Project Lifesaver program. To close our 11th season, the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra proudly pays tribute to Wheeler’s remarkable legacy with a performance of his most iconic works.

Joining us for this unforgettable evening is Ingrid Jensen, one of Canada’s most celebrated jazz trumpeters. Known for her brilliant technique and emotive performances, Jensen will bring her extraordinary artistry to Wheeler’s deeply personal compositions, creating a perfect homage to this legendary figure in jazz.

They perform their biggest hits, while telling the stories about how they grew together as friends. This show gives you the opportunity to see what they looked like and what they sounded like as they became the superstars we know today. “We feature songs like Always on My Mind, Ring of Fire, Me and Bobby McGee and Luckenbach Texas. I wanted to provide people the opportunity to a show I wish I could have seen,” Founder Gray Sartin said.
