Belle Plaine and Blake Berglund are Saskatchewan-based songwriters, performers, and co-founders of Western Seer Records. Their partnership combines distinct artistic identities with a shared commitment to independent music.
Belle Plaine, born Melanie Berglund, has built a career defined by range and consistency. Her voice and writing have carried her from performances with symphony orchestras to late-night barrooms. She has appeared at AmericanaFest, Folk Alliance International, Bristol Rhythm & Roots, and toured internationally, including direct support for Colter Wall throughout the UK & Europe. Her forthcoming album The Weather follows Malice, Mercy, Grief and Wrath, named Saskatchewan’s Top Album of 2018.
Blake Berglund is a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and writer whose work stands at the intersection of rural memoir and political reflection. His sixth record, What’s Left of the Right, is a self-produced double LP that spans twenty songs and multiple genres, marking his most ambitious release to date.
Together, Plaine and Berglund maintain a steady presence on festival and theatre stages across Canada, while developing Western Seer Records as a platform for independent voices.
Lachlan Neville is a musician and songwriter from Rocanville, Saskatchewan, whose early passion for reading introduced him to the worlds of Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Steinbeck before he left elementary school. This love of literature, paired with the influence of his father’s ’62 Martin acoustic guitar, guided Lachlan toward the work of Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and John Prine, inspiring a deep commitment to songwriting. During the global pandemic, he dedicated time to refining his craft, developing a body of original material that quickly earned recognition.
